MAGIC BEAN
The Black Bean tree (Castanospermum Australe) is native to the coastal rainforests of Australia from Northern New South Wales to Port Douglas in Queensland.

The seed of good fortune

In Asia, the giant seed of the black bean is considered a symbol of good luck and prosperity. When the seed is placed on the surface of the soil, it "magically' springs to life to produce a beautiful miniature rainforest tree. Multi-planted, the "Magic Bean'  makes a stunning potted display combining the dark shiny leaves of the tree with the novelty ornamental value of the giant seeds.

  • You can display your Magic Bean in a bright sheltered position indoors or out. It will be happy in full sun or filtered light.
  • Water the plant thoroughly once per week or as required. Water less often in winter.
  • If the plant has been left dry for an extended period, revive it by soaking the whole pot in a container of water for 10 minutes or so.
  • Feed in spring and late summer/autumn with a slow release fertiliser. In addition, soak the potting mix with a liquid fertiliser once a month to keep the plant in top condition.
  • Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth from time to time to remove dust and keep the foliage looking clean and shiny.
